چکیده
Abstract Toppling rock slopes, induced by rapid and continuous downcutting of Lancang River, are widely distributed in the mountainous area southwest China. To investigate instability mechanism 1# toppling slope Huangdeng Hydropower Station under seismic loading, particle flow code (PFC) is applied to simulate dynamic response failure mode. The study considers characteristics displacement, velocity, energy, cracks. According numerical results, potential identified: multisliding surfaces form at interfaces between highly moderately toppled mass highly/moderately weak toppled-crept mass; intersecting faults cut toe, leading shear-toppling deformation; tension cracks develop, penetrate, coalesce mass, resulting tension-toppling-bending deformation. During 2 5 s strong intensity, crack increases sharply energy particles fluctuates greatly. impacts amplitude loading method PFC investigated. This will provide a practically useful reference for design slopes.

Slope Stability of Municipal Solid Waste Landfills under Seismic Loading
Design of municipal solid waste (MSW) landfills requires a considerable attention due to the undesirable environmental and socio-economical impact of a potential failure. Furthermore, recent research and engineering practice experience in developed countries characterized by high seismicity, like U.S.A and Japan, has shown that MSW landfills are vulnerable to the seismic threat. Despite the viv...
متن کاملFlexural Toppling Failure in Rock Slopes: From Theory to Applications
Toppling failure is one of the most common modes of failure of rock slopes in layered rock strata. Flexural toppling is one of the well-known modes of the failure. This type of failure occurs due to bending stress. In this article, a brief yet comprehensive review of toppling failure is presented. Firstly, the conditions and general mechanism of the failure are described. Then, experimental, th...

متن کاملPhysical and theoretical modeling of rock slopes against block-flexure toppling failure
Block-flexure is the most common mode of toppling failure in natural and excavated rock slopes. In such failure, some rock blocks break due to tensile stresses and some overturn under their own weights and then all of them topple together. In this paper, first, a brief review of previous studies on toppling failures is presented. Then, the physical and mechanical properties of experimental mode...
